Led by 27th year head coach C.J. Law, the Mount Holyoke riding team maintained its reputation as one of the top programs in the country in 2010-11. The Lyons returned to the IHSA National Championships for the 20th time in program history, taking third place overall. They finished atop the Zone 1, Region 3 standings and later secured the Zone 1 High Point Championship.
Out of their eight regular season shows, they picked up six High Point Championships and one Reserve High Point title.
Leading the way were seniors JoJo Gutfarb, Lindsay Sceats and Elizabeth Tripp.
Gutfarb competed in the prestigious Cacchione Cup Class at the National Championships after claiming regional and zone High Point Rider titles. She finished as the regional Reserve High Point Rider in both the flat and fences divisions.
Sceats and Tripp earned a share of the regional Reserve High Point Rider award. In addition, Sceats was honored as the regional High Point Fences Rider, and Tripp was named the regional High Point Flat Rider.
Senior Amanda Ross (walk-trot-canter) and first year Alexa Lohrer (open flat) each earned second place finishes in their respective divisions at the National Championships. Other national qualifiers included junior Margaret Swanson (intermediate fences | intermediate flat) and senior Belinda Wenke (walk-trot).
Sophomore Paulina Erni contributed seven points to Mount Holyoke's team total with her first place finish in the walk-trot division at the National Championships. Sceats wrapped up her storied career with a third place showing in the open fences division, while sophomore Sally Gibb grabbed fourth place in the novice fences division. The Lyons' remaining points came from Lohrer, who chipped in with a fifth place performance in the open flat division. As a team, they collected 16 points.
A total of 16 Mount Holyoke riders qualified for the Regional Championships in 20 classes. Of those, eight went on to compete in the Zone Championships.
