Riding Earns Reserve Championship at Amherst Show

SHELBOURNE, Mass. (Nov. 6, 2010) – The Mount Holyoke College riding team finished as Reserve Champions at the Amherst College Horse Show today. A total of nine teams from around the region participated in the event, which took place at Biscuit Hill Farm. The University of Massachusetts grabbed top honors with a score of 46 points.

Riding Team Mount Holyoke's final tally of 37 points was good for second place, while Smith College rounded out the top three with 32 points. The remainder of the field consisted of Amherst College (31), Westfield State University (22), Springfield College (21), Williams College (19), Landmark College (14) and Hampshire College (12).

The Lyons came away with four blue ribbons. Two of those came in the beginner walk-trot-canter division, where senior Belinda Wenke and first year Kristen Engholm each prevailed. Sophomore Allison Reding won her section of the walk-trot-canter division, while first year Flynn Vickowski repeated the feat in the novice fences division.

Mount Holyoke will put the finishing touches on its fall slate at home on November 20.
