Riding Closes Out Fall Slate With Dominant Performance at Second Home Show

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Nov. 20, 2010) – With senior Lindsay Sceats and  first year Cali Zimmerman leading the way, the Mount Holyoke College riding team closed out the fall portion of its 2010-11 slate with a resounding victory in front of its home crowd today. The Lyons piled up 13 blue ribbons en route to their fourth High Point Championship of the season.

The event took place Mount Holyoke Equestrian Center and featured nine teams from around the region. Mount Holyoke recorded 44 points. The Lyons were followed by the University of Massachusetts (34), Smith College (31), Landmark College (21), Williams College (20), Amherst College (16), Westfield State University (15), Springfield College (14) and Hampshire College (6). They now lead UMass by 30 points in the Zone 1, Region 3 standings.

Sceats was named Reserve High Point Rider after taking first place in her sections of the open flat and open fences divisions. Meanwhile, Zimmerman secured Intermediate High Point Rider accolades after grabbing first place in her sections of the intermediate flat and intermediate fences divisions.

Mount Holyoke also received solid production from first year Alexa Lohrer, who took home a pair of blue ribbons. She was victorious in the open flat and open fences divisions.

The Lyons remaining blue ribbons came from first year Bobbie Bigelow (intermediate flat), first year Ella Pittman (novice flat), sophomore Emily Coggins (novice flat), junior Hadley King (walk-trot), senior JoJo Gutfarb (open fences), senior Katharine Henderson (novice flat) and junior Margaret Swanson (open flat).

Mount Holyoke will be off until Saturday, December 4, when it takes part in the prestigious Holiday Tournament of Champions Horse Show at St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, N.C. The Lyons will resume their regular season schedule with a sizeable lead in their regional standings. With three shows remaining, Gutfarb (1st), Sceats (2nd) and senior Elizabeth Tripp (4th) hold three of the top four spots in the regional Cacchione Cup standings.
