Gutfarb and Sceats Boost Riding to High Point Championship at UMass

HADLEY, Mass. (Oct. 16, 2010) – With seniors JoJo Gutfarb and Lindsay Sceats leading the way, the Mount Holyoke College riding team grabbed top honors at the University of Massachusetts Intercollegiate Horse Show today at Hadley Farms. The Lyons amassed 35 points en route to their second straight High Point Championship.

Riding

UMass secured Reserve High Point honors with 32 points, while Westfield State University collected third place with 28 points. Rounding out the nine team field were Amherst College (27), Smith College (24), Landmark College (19), Springfield College (19), Williams College (19) and Hampshire College (17).

A total of five Lyons earned blue ribbons. In addition to Gutfarb (open flat) and Sceats (open fences), the group included first year Kristen Engholm (beginner walk-trot-canter), junior Hadley King (walk-trot) and sophomore Clara Tate (novice fences).

Gutfarb and Sceats also posted second place results in the open fences and open flat divisions, respectively. Additional second place finishers were sophomore Sally Gibb (intermediate flat), junior Katharine Henderson (novice flat) and junior Haley Streibich (walk-trot-canter).

Mount Holyoke is slated to host its fall show next Saturday at the Equestrian Center.
