Riding Kicks Off 2010-11 Campaign at Pre-Season Tournament of Champions

Lindsay Sceats BALTIMORE, Md. (Sept. 26, 2010) – The Mount Holyoke College riding team kicked off its 2010-11 campaign at the prestigious Pre-Season Tournament of Champions Horse Show  today. Eighteen teams representing 14 colleges from around the nation were present at the first installment of the three-part Tournament of Champions series.

Mount Holyoke fielded two full teams at the competition, which took place at the Goucher College Equestrian Center in Baltimore, Md. Team Silly collected 19 points en route to a seventh place finish, while Team Bandz  tallied 15 points to secure 14th place.

The University of Mary Washington took home the High Point Championship by way of a 34 point performance. Bridgewater College grabbed Reserve High Point honors with 30 points, while Lynchburg University nabbed third place with 29 points.

Mount Holyoke's most outstanding performance of the day came from senior Lindsay Sceats, who secured top honors in the Medal Class. Classmates JoJo Gutfarb and Elizabeth Tripp also competed in the medal class. Gutfarb came away with a fourth place ribbon.

Junior Margaret Swanson collected second place in her class of the intermediate flat division. Meanwhile, sophomore Paulina Erni matched the feat in the walk-trot division.

The Lyons will get its regular season slate underway at the Smith College Intercollegiate Horse Show on Saturday, October 9.
