C.J. Law enters her 38th season at Mount Holyoke College and currently serves as the Director of Intercollegiate Coaching and Varsity Hunt Seat Team Coach.

At Mount Holyoke College

  • Regarded as one of the top collegiate riding coaches in the nation.
  • Has guided the Lyons to three IHSA National Collegiate Team Championships (1986, 2000, 2006)
  • Helped the Lyons to four Tournament of Champions titles (1993, 1997, 2002, 2007, 2012 & 2013) since taking over the reins of the program in 1984.
  • Guided teams to 30 Regional Championship wins at Mount Holyoke College.
  • Has seen her riders also take top honors in the prestigious Cacchione Cup Class (1990, 2002, 2010).
  • Was named Horsewoman of the Year by Spur Magazine in 1997 and was also selected as one of its 20 most influential horse people in the country.
  • Received the prestigious IHSA Lifetime Achievement Award for her innovative ideas promoting sportsmanship in 1998.
  • Founded the IHSA Senior Academic Achievement and National Horse Show Sportsmanship Awards.
  • As Equestrian Coaching Director, she oversees the four equestrian teams at MHC with over 100 riders.
  • Has served on the IHSA Board of Directors since 1986 and has been the IHSA Zone 1 Chairperson since 1989.
  • Has also chaired the IHSA Education Committee, the NCAA and the National Horse Show Committees.
  • Presently a member of the IHSA PR& Communications Marketing Committee.  
  • From 1986-88, Law was the IHSA Zone 1, Region 3 Regional President.
  • Law has been an organizer of the IHSA Zone 1 Championship Horse Show since 1989. 
  • Organized and hosted the IHSA National Championship Horse Show in 1989, 1997 and 2007.

Before Mount Holyoke College

  • As a junior rider, Law gained extensive hunter and equitation experience. In addition to competing at the open level during her college days, she also rode and trained her horse, Nobody’s Perfect, to the intermediate level in eventing.
  • Graduated from the Averett College equestrian program in 1980 and later spent time as a faculty instructor from 1980-82.
  • Over the course of her career, Law has studied with internationally recognized professionals in dressage, combined training and hunter/jumper.
  • She was selected as a rider to train with then-U.S. Olympic coach Jack LeGoff.

Personal

  • Law enjoys riding dressage. During the summer months, she serves as Director of Riding at Camp Forest Acres in Fryeburg, Maine. She is the mother of four children. Her eldest, Jessica, graduated from Mount Holyoke in May of 2013 and her youngest child, Carol is a member of the Mount Holyoke class of 2021.
