2010-11 Riding Year in ReviewJuly 06, 2011Led by veteran head coach C.J. Law, the Mount Holyoke riding team maintained its reputation as one of the top programs in the country in 2010-11. The Lyons returned to the IHSA National Championships for the 20th time in program history, taking third place overall. They finished atop the Zone 1, Region 3 standings and later secured the Zone 1 High Point Championship.

The recognition event highlighted those student-athletes who have excelled both on the field and in the classroom.

Riding Claims Third Place at IHSA National ChampionshipsMay 07, 2011Mount Holyoke rounded out its 2010-11 campaign with a third place finish at the IHSA National Championship Horse Show this weekend. A total of 14 teams from around the nation competed in the event, which was hosted by Kentucky Horse Park. Sophomore Paulina Erni led the Lyons with a first place showing in the walk-trot division.

Awards Handed Out at Annual Athletics BanquetMay 05, 2011The Mount Holyoke Department of Athletics hosted its annual awards celebration this evening in Chapin Auditorium. Individuals from all 14 varsity teams were honored. Volleyball player Kara Neidhardt served as the event’s emcee. Rider Lindsay Sceats earned the prestigious Alumnae Association Scholar-Athlete Award.

Riding Punches Ticket to IHSA National ChampionshipsApril 09, 2011For the 20th time in program history, Mount Holyoke has advanced to the IHSA National Championships. The Lyons punched their ticket with a thrilling victory at the Zone 1 Championships today. They will now travel to Lexington, Kentucky to compete in the National Championships from May 5-8 at Kentucky Horse Park.

Sixteen Riders Compete in Regional ChampionshipsApril 02, 2011Sixteen riders represented Mount Holyoke today at the Zone 1, Region 3 Regional Championships at Hadley Farms. As a result of their performances at the show, a total of eight Lyons qualified for next weekend's Zone 1 Championships.

Riding Clinches Regional Championship With Sixth High Point Title of SeasonMarch 26, 2011Mount Holyoke closed out its regular season with a bang, grabbing High Point honors at Sycamore Stables today. With their sixth title of the season, the Lyons secured their third straight regional championship. With her performance today, senior JoJo Gutfarb secured regional High Point Rider honors and a spot in the National Championships.

Riding Posts Dominant Effort in Front of Home CrowdMarch 05, 2011With first year Alexa Lohrer leading the way, Mount Holyoke sprinted to a resounding 18-point victory in front of its home crowd today. The Lyons racked up 15 blue ribbons en route to 43 points and their fifth High Point Championship of the season. With just one regular season show remaining, they lead UMass by 45 points in the regional standings.

Mount Holyoke Named a 2011 Best Value CollegeMarch 03, 2011Mount Holyoke is once again one of the nation's 50 "Best Value" private colleges and universities, according to the Princeton Review. The educational services company teamed with USA Today to present the list of "The Princeton Review Best Value Colleges for 2011" on February 22. The list features 100 schools in all - 50 private and 50 public colleges and universities.

Rider Elizabeth Tripp Collects Lyon of the Week AccoladesMarch 01, 2011Elizabeth Tripp has earned the Lyon of the Week award for the week of February 21-27 after leading the riding team to a Reserve High Point Championship at the UMass Horse Show on Saturday. The senior finished the day as the High Point Rider for the first time in career.

The event, which featured some of the best collegiate equestrian teams from around the nation, took place at the Chatham Hall Equestrian Center. Mount Holyoke grabbed fifth place.

A total of nine teams from around the region participated in the event, which took place at Biscuit Hill Farm. The University of Massachusetts grabbed top honors with a score of 46 points.

It was the Lyons’ third straight High Point Championship. The event took place Mount Holyoke Equestrian Center and featured nine teams from around the region. Mount Holyoke recorded a near perfect score of 47 points.

Rider Margaret Swanson Collects Lyon of the Week HonorsOctober 12, 2010Margaret Swanson has earned the Lyon of the Week Award for the week of October 4-10 after leading the riding team to a High Point Championship at the Smith College Intercollegiate Horse Show on Saturday. The junior not only finished the day as the High Point Rider, but she also claimed Intermediate High Point Rider accolades. As a team, Mount Holyoke took home 15 blue ribbons on its way to a perfect score of 49. It was the Lyons first regular season show of the 2010-11 campaign. In addition to posting a first place finish in her section of the intermediate fences division, Swanson also grabbed top honors in her class of the intermediate flat division. By doing so, she qualified for the Zone 1, Region 3 Regional Championships in the intermediate flat division and made herself eligible for the open division.

Riding Kicks Off 2010-11 Campaign at Pre-Season Tournament of ChampionsSeptember 26, 2010The Mount Holyoke riding team kicked off its 2010-11 campaign at the prestigious Pre-Season Tournament of Champions Horse Show today. Eighteen teams representing 14 colleges from around the nation were present at the first installment of the three-part Tournament of Champions series. Mount Holyoke fielded two teams at the competition.
