Trinity Stops Swim and Dive, 134-108

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Jan. 20, 2010) – With senior Nicole Albino leading the way, the Trinity College women’s swimming and diving team downed Mount Holyoke College 134-108 this evening at the Mount Holyoke Natatorium. The Bantams took home top honors in eight of the 13 events to secure their ninth straight win over the Lyons.

Albino touched the wall first in both the 500 (5:32.27) and 1,000-yard (11:29.21) freestyle races. Senior Emily Cote (200-yard freestyle, 2:03.57), first year Shelby Friel (100-yard butterfly, 1:01.29), first year Emily Jensen(100-yard freestyle, 56.47) and sophomore Lindsay Saya (100-yard backstroke, 1:06.88) also posted wins in swimming events for the Bantams.

Meanwhile, sophomore Kate Bress collected first place in the one meter diving (220.27) competition, and junior Jillian Bargar repeated the feat off the three meter board (215.27).

Leading the way for Mount Holyoke was senior Lindsay Schonborn. After teaming with first year Joan Burton, junior Michelle Kroll and sophomore Lydia Bowers to win the 200-yard medley relay (1:57.30), she posted individual victories in the 200-yard individual medley (2:21.01) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.93).

Bowers added an individual triumph in the 50-yard freestyle (26.13). Meanwhile, Kroll partnered with first year Nora Cunningham, sophomore Sarah Rooney and senior Shannon Sutherland to record the top time in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:49.29).

Mount Holyoke (4-2) will return to action this weekend, when it hosts the 29th annual Seven Sisters Championship. The two day competition is slated to begin on Saturday and conclude on Sunday. It will include Bryn Mawr College, Smith College, Wellesley College and Vassar College in addition to the Lyons. Trinity (2-4) is scheduled to host Brandeis University on Saturday.
