"Lyon of the Week" Award Goes to Swim Duo

Senior Lindsay Schonborn and first year Joan Burton have earned a share of the “Lyon of the Week” award for the week of January 11-17. Mount Holyoke opened the week with a tri-meet at Clark University on Friday. Despite falling 166-133 to the host Cougars, the Lyons downed Elms College 193-86. With the win, the Lyons remained perfect in 14 all-time meetings against the Blazers. They then rounded out the week with a 161-138 triumph over Simmons College on Saturday. Schonborn and Burton led the way, totaling six first place finishes apiece.

Burton racked up three victories against Clark and Elms. She took home top honors in both the 100 (1:04.20) and 200-yard (2:24.11) butterfly events as well as the 100-yard freestyle (57.42). Schonborn also enjoyed an outstanding afternoon. After touching the wall first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.13), she added a win in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:40.87).

Schonborn figured in on four wins to pace Mount Holyoke in its win over Simmons. In addition to posting individual victories in the 50-yard breaststroke (33.75), 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.52) and 200-yard individual medley (2:21.95), she also teamed with Burton, junior Michelle Kroll and first year Nora Cunningham to post the top time in the 400-yard medley relay (4:26.02).
