Swim and Dive Takes Home Top Honors at Regis

WESTON, Mass. (Nov. 14, 2009) – Powered by senior Lindsay Schonborn and sophomore Lydia Bowers, the Mount Holyoke College women’s swimming and diving team took home top honors at the Regis College Invitational this weekend. The competition kicked off with diving events last night and concluded with swimming events today.

Mount Holyoke racked up 737 to secure first place. The Lyons were followed by the University of New England (637), Simmons College (584), Plymouth State University (521), Husson College (351) and Regis (202).

Schonborn and Bowers figured in on four and three first place finishes, respectively.

The duo teamed up with junior Michelle Kroll and first year Joan Burton to win the 200-yard medley relay (1:59.51).

Schonborn also clocked top times in both the 50 (33.28) and 100-yard (1:13.36) breaststroke events as well as the 100-yard individual medley (1:004.98).

Meanwhile, Bowers, first year Nora Cunningham, sophomore Sarah Rooney and sophomore Victoria Gavin combined to post the best time in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:48.31). Bowers added another win in the 100-yard freestyle (57.54).

Rooney touched the wall first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:27.14) to round things out for the Lyons.

Mount Holyoke will return to action on Wednesday, when it hosts Westfield State College at 7:00 p.m. It will be the Lyons first dual meet of the 2009-10 campaign.
