Swimmers Split "Lyon of the Week" Award
Sophomore Lydia Bowers and first year Nora Cunningham have earned a share of the “Lyon of the Week” award for the week of November 2-8. The duo helped Mount Holyoke to a second place finish in its 2009-10 season opener at the Betty Spears Relays on Saturday. Both swimmers figured in on three first place finishes. They teamed with junior Michelle Kroll and first year Stephanie Roses to take top honors with a time of 1:55.73 in the 200-yard backstroke/freestyle. Bowers, Roses and Cunningham then joined forces with first year Joan Burton to win the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.98. The Lyons final first place finish of the afternoon came from Bowers, Cunningham, Burton and senior Lindsay Schonborn, who came out on top in the 400-yard freestyle with a time of 3:51.77.
