Bates Edges Squash in Howe Cup Finale, 5-4

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Feb. 28, 2010) – The 12th seeded Mount Holyoke College women’s squash team sustained a heartbreaking 5-4 setback to 11th seeded Bates College today at the 2010 College Squash Association Howe Cup National Championships. With their win, the Bobcats secured 11th place overall. The Lyons closed things out in 12th place.

Competing in the Kurtz Cup (B Division), Mount Holyoke opened the weekend with a 6-3 victory over 13th seeded Middlebury College on Friday. They were blanked 9-0 by ninth seeded Dartmouth College in yesterday’s semifinal contest before falling to Bates in the 11th place match this morning.

The Lyons closed out the 2009-10 season with an overall record of 14-9. They will compete in the College Squash Association Individual Championships next weekend at Trinity College. The event is slated to begin on Friday and conclude on Sunday.

Earning victories for Mount Holyoke were seniors Laura Robinson, Laurian Lue Yen and Michelle Zagardo, along with first year Tempest Bowden.
