Pair of Squash Team Members Garner "Lyon of the Week" Accolades
Junior Vidushi Gurunada and sophomore Shara Robertson have earned a share of the “Lyon of the Week” award for the week of January 18-24. The duo propelled Mount Holyoke to an undefeated record at its home invitational over the weekend, posting shutouts in each of their four matches. Over the past four seasons, the team has posted a perfect 16-0 mark at the tournament.
The Lyons breezed past both Hamilton College (9-0) and Wesleyan University (9-0) on Saturday before edging Middlebury College (5-4) and blanking Columbia University (9-0) on Sunday. Their win over Middlebury was their first since the 2003-04 campaign.
Gurunada and Robertson were consistenly dominant over the course of the event, as they dropped just 52 and 61 points, respectively. Gurunada picked up victories over Kelly Whipple, Casey Simchik, Virginia Shannon and Anne Cheng at the number one position. Meanwhile, Robertson downed Alyssa Bawden, Tanesha Jackson, Sarah DeCamp and Tara Banani at the number three slot.
