Yale Blanks Squash, 9-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Jan. 17, 2010) – The Mount Holyoke College women’s squash team sustained a 9-0 setback to Yale University this afternoon at the Brady Squash Center. It was the first ever meeting between the two programs.

Mount Holyoke’s top performance came from senior Michelle Zagardo, who fell 3-1 at the number nine position. The remaining eight matches were each shutout victories for the Bulldogs.

The Lyons (6-4) are slated to host their home invitational next weekend. A total of 53 matches will take place at Mount Holyoke, Smith College and Amherst College. Both men’s and women’s teams will compete in the event, which is scheduled to begin on Saturday and conclude on Sunday.

Mount Holyoke will get things going with contests against Hamilton College (10:30 a.m.) and Wesleyan University (1:30 p.m.) on Saturday. The Lyons will then wrap things up against Middlebury College (10:30 a.m.) and Columbia University (1:30 p.m.) on Sunday. Over the past three seasons, they have posted a perfect 12-0 mark at the tournament.
