Squash Earns Split at Yale Invitational

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Jan. 16, 2010) – The Mount Holyoke College women’s squash team split a pair of matches this afternoon at Yale University. After falling 9-0 to Cornell University, the Lyons bounced back with a 9-0 triumph over Bowdoin College. Both contests took place at the Brady Squash Center.

Mount Holyoke was paced by sophomore Shara Robertson, first year Tempest Bowden, senior Lila Khan, senior Hillela Simpson and senior Michelle Zagardo in its fourth straight win over Bowdoin. They each posted shutouts at the numbers three, five, seven, eight and nine positions, respectively.

Junior Vidushi Gurunada overcame a 2-0 deficit to defeat Lauren Gesswein 3-2 at the number one spot. Meanwhile, senior Laura Robinson, senior Laurian Lue Yen and sophomore Paulina Rojek came out on top 3-1 in their matches.

Mount Holyoke (6-3) will wrap up its weekend against Yale tomorrow at 11:30 a.m.
