Squash Races Past Amherst, 7-2

AMHERST, Mass. (Jan. 14, 2010) – The Mount Holyoke College women’s squash team raced to a 7-2 triumph over Amherst College this afternoon at Davenport Courts. With their fourth straight victory over the Lord Jeffs, the Lyons snapped a two match slide.

Leading the way for Mount Holyoke were senior Laurian Lue Yen and first year Tempest Bowden, who picked up 3-0 wins at the numbers four and five positions, respectively. Bowden dropped just 13 points in her match against Anna Piper.

Senior Laura Robinson, sophomore Shara Robertson, senior Lila Khan, senior Hillela Simpson and senior Michelle Zagardo also found the win column for the guests.

Amherst’s (3-2) victories came from juniors Hayley Milbourn and Mimi Bell.

Mount Holyoke (5-2) is slated to take part in three matches at Yale University this weekend. After facing off against Cornell University at 1:15 p.m., the Lyons will take on Bowdoin College at 3:45 p.m. They will wrap things up with a contest against the host Bulldogs on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
