Squash Blanked by Trinity and Williams

HARTFORD, Conn. (Dec. 12, 2009) – The Mount Holyoke College women’s squash team suffered a pair of 9-0 setbacks at Trinity College this afternoon. After falling to the host Bantams, the Lyons were downed by Williams College. Both matches took place at the Kellner Squash Center.

Junior Vidushi Gurunada and first year Tempest Bowden fared well in Mount Holyoke’s first contest of the day against Trinity. After dropping the first two games in her number one match against Nayelly Hernandez, Gurunada extended things by taking the fourth game. She eventually fell by a score of 3-1 (11-5, 11-9, 8-11, 11-5). In the number five tilt, Bowden took Emery Holton to five games but was upended 3-2 (11-13, 11-8, 11-5, 10-12, 11-5).

  • Bowden was at it again in the Lyons second match of the day against Williams. This time, she took Caroline Henry to the limit at the number five slot before falling 3-2 (8-11, 11-6, 11-3, 7-11, 11-6 ). Senior Laura Robinson, sophomore Shara Robertson, senior Laurian Lue Yen and senior Hillela Simpson were each upended 3-1 at the numbers two, three, four and seven positions, respectively.

It was the Lyons first ever meeting with Trinity. They have now fallen to Williams three times in a row.

Mount Holyoke (4-2) will be off until Thursday, January 14, when it visits Amherst College at 2:00 p.m.
