???WALTHAM, Mass. (Nov. 21, 2009) – Using a balanced attack, the Mount Holyoke College women’s basketball team topped the Wentworth Institute of Technology 59-50 in the consolation round of the Brandeis University Tip-Off Tournament this afternoon. With the win, the Lyons secured third place at the event. Four of Mount Holyoke’s five starters reached double digits in the scoring column.

Leading the way was first year Angelica Pascual, who poured in game high 17 points on 7-of-19 shooting from the floor. She also collected nine rebounds and drained a pair of three pointers en route to being selected to the All-Tournament Team.

Senior forward Jess Olson recorded her 17th career double-double and second of the year on 11 points and a game best 13 boards. Meanwhile, classmate Erin Cain totaled ten points and five assists from the wing. Sophomore forward Tricia Chase chipped in with ten points.

Wentworth (2-2, 0-0 TCCC) was led by senior guard Michelle Fauci, who amassed 14 points. Junior forward Kirsten Vallone added a double-double on 12 point and 11 rebounds.

Neither team led by more than five points in a first half that featured six ties and seven lead changes. Mount Holyoke took a 27-25 edge into the locker room.

The Lyons then pulled away in the second stanza, scoring 11 of the first 15 points to build a 38-29 advantage at the 12:48 mark. From there, they cruised, leading by as many as 13 points (46-33) down the stretch.

Mount Holyoke (2-1, 0-0 NEWMAC) will return to action on Tuesday, when it hosts non-conference foe Amherst College at 7:00 p.m.
