Williams Secures Team Title at Mount Holyoke Invitational

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Sept. 25, 2011) – Led by Georgiana Salant, the Williams College women's golf team grabbed top honors at the 36th annual Mount Holyoke College Invitational this weekend. A total of 16 teams and 79 individuals participated in the tournament, which was hosted by The Orchards Golf Club (par 72 – 5,845 yards).

The Ephs recorded a team score of 634 (320, 314) en route to their second championship in a row. Middlebury College (644 – 325, 319) and Amherst College (654 – 325, 329) rounded out the top three. Host Mount Holyoke finished the weekend in 14th place overall (740 – 370, 370)

Middlebury's Flora Weeks took home medalist honors after posting a two day total of 148 (73, 75). She finished one stroke in front of St. John Fisher College's Alexandra Battle (149 – 76, 73) and four shots ahead of Wagner University's Ellen Huffman (152 – 76, 73). Salant closed out the weekend in fourth place (153 – 72, 81). She entered the second round in first place after firing a 72 yesterday.

Mount Holyoke was paced by first year Madi Mendiola, who amassed a two day total of 158 (79, 79) to secure seventh place overall. Classmates Rebecca Berger and Hannah Falvey chipped in with 42nd (176 – 87, 89) and 54th (182 – 88, 94) place results, respectively.

Mount Holyoke will return to action next weekend, when it participates in the Middlebury College Invitational. The event is slated to begin on Saturday and conclude on Sunday.
