Golf Kicks Off 2011-12 Campaign at New York University Invitational

SUFFERN, N.J. (Sept. 18, 2011) – The Mount Holyoke College golf team got its 2011-12 season underway at the New York University Invitational this weekend. A total of 13 teams and 65 individuals competed in the two day tournament, which took place at Spook Rock Golf Course (par 72 – 6,008).

Mount Holyoke was paced by Madi Mendiola, who earned a 13th place finish in her collegiate debut. The first year fired an 81 on Saturday and followed that up with an 83 today. Fellow newcomer Rebecca Berger carded a two-day score of 188 (93, 95) to take 41st place.

Williams College breezed to the team title with a score of 631. The Ephs were followed in the top three by Middlebury College (643) and Amherst College (661). Mount Holyoke's team score of 762 was good for 11th place overall.

Middlebury's Flora Weeks secured medalist honors with a two-day tally of 151 (75, 76).

Mount Holyoke will host its home invitational next weekend at the Orchards Golf Club. The tournament is slated to begin on Saturday and conclude on Sunday.
