Rowing takes three wins at New England Rowing Championships

WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College rowing team competed well in the New England Rowing Championships on Saturday at Lake Quinsigamond, with its first and second varsity eights beating boats from Colby and Middlebury, respectively.

The Lyons 1V8 finished sixth out of six boats in its morning heat, with a time of 7:28.291 over 2,000 meters trailing Trinity, Wellesley, Holy Cross, Smith and Vermont (7:16.805). The boat moved on to the Final 3, the third six-boat final out of 20 1V8s total, where they lowered their time to 7:26.536 and placed fifth out of six boats, between Connecticut College (7:19.460) and Colby (7:40.942).

Mount Holyoke's 2V8 outraced Middlebury 7:58.739 to 8:02.685 for fifth place out of six boats in its morning heat, with Williams, Trinity, Smith and Coast Guard taking the first four places. The Lyons 2V8 went on to top Middlebury again for fourth place out of five boats in the Final 3, 8:07.902 to 8:22.080. Clark, Vermont, and Connecticut College finished 1-2-3 in the race.

Mount Holyoke will return to Worcester on Sunday, May 12 for the National Invitational Rowing Championship.
