Rowing outraces Simmons, Assumption in NEWMAC preparation

WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College rowing team competing in its second regatta of the spring Saturday on Lake Quinsigamond, tuning up for next week's NEWMAC Championships by racing against Coast Guard, Bowdoin, Bryant, Simmons and host Assumption.

Mount Holyoke's first varsity eight placed fourth among six boats in its one race of the day, covering the 2,000-meter course in 7:41.8. Coast Guard finished first (7:16.57), followed by Bowdoin (7:24.41), Bryant (7:28.2), Mount Holyoke, Simmons (8:13.92) and Assumption (8:25.36).

In the three-boat 2V8 race, Mount Holyoke finished third in 8:14.9 behind Coast Guard (8:04.94) and Bowdoin (8:04.94).

The Lyons return to Lake Quinsigamond next Saturday morning to row in the NEWMAC Championships.
