Rowing outpaces tough competition at the renowned Head of the Charles regatta

BOSTON -- The Mount Holyoke College rowing team's varsity eight had an impressive race at the Head of the Charles regatta on Sunday, taking 23rd place out of 35 boats in Women's Collegiate Eights while outpacing several strong Division III rivals.

Coxswained by sophomore Tobin Mayo-Kiely (Anchorage, Alaska) and with senior Celeste Keep (Bolton, Mass.) in the stroke position, the Lyons completed the 3-mile, serpentine course on the Charles River in a time of 19:28.509. Mount Holyoke's time of 3:04.977 from CBC to the Eliot Bridge finish line was the 19th fastest in the field.

Mount Holyoke finished the course more than 3 seconds faster than 24th-place Rochester (19:32.182), and faster than such competition as Williams' 2V8 (19:35.191), Catholic (19:41.493), Colby (19:44.785), William Smith (19:46.507), and Connecticut College (20:37.586).

The Head of the Charles concludes the abbreviated fall rowing season; the Lyons' next official competition is currently scheduled to be at Skidmore in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., on April 6, 2024.
