Rowing races four boats to open fall season at Head of the Riverfront

HARTFORD, Conn. -- The Mount Holyoke College rowing team competed in its first regatta of the 2023-24 academic year on Sunday at the enormous Head of the Riverfront on the Connecticut River.

The Lyons fielded two varsity eight boats in the Women's Open 8+ division, placing 14th and 25th among 25 boats, while their fours placed ninth and 15th in the Women's Open 4+ division.

Coxswained by sophomore Tobin Mayo-Kiely (Anchorage, Alaska), Mount Holyoke's first varsity eight finished the course in 15:11.33, 14th-fastest in the division and between 13th-place Iona (14:59.63) and the Holy Cross 2V8 (15:23.73).

The Lyons also raced two fours in the Women's Open 4+ race, with their 2V4 placing ninth and their 1V4 placing 15th among 16 boats, in a field that included the University of Connecticut, Trinity and Holy Cross. The Mount Holyoke 2V4 finished the course in 17:53.00.

The abbreviated fall rowing season continues and wraps up with the Head of the Charles in Boston on Sunday, Oct. 22.
