BOSTON, Mass. - The Mount Holyoke College rowing team saw three different boats finish second overall to propell the Lyons to second overall among five teams at the 2014 Seven Sisters Regatta. This year's event, held on the Charles River, saw host Wellesley College win the team title once again.
The Blue captured the title with 32 points, followed by MHC (22), Smith (14), Simmons (12) and Bryn Mawr (0).
Leading the Lyons on Sunday was the first varsity eight, which posted a time of 15.56 to finish second overall, just a fraction behind first-place Wellesley (15.39). The Lyons outpaced Smith, Simmons and Bryn Mawr in the race.
In the second varsity eight event, the Lyons were third overall with a time of 17.39, coming up just short behind Wellesley (16.39) and Smith (17.33). In the first novice eight race, the Lyons were second overall with a time of 17.40. That boat was eclipsed by a fraction by winner Wellesley (17.28).
The second novice eight race featured two MHC boats. The 'A' boat came in second with a time of 20.19, while the 'B' boat had a time of 22.41 to finish fifth.
Following the races, the annual awards ceremony was held where junior Rosalind Waltz-Peters (Rutland, Mass./Wachusett Regional) and sophomore Molly Lapointe (Kennebung, Maine/Berwick Academy) earned All-Seven Sisters Championship recognition on Varsity. Additionally, first year Kimberly Ho (Walnut Creek, Calif./Acalanes) was tabbed to the All-Championship Novice Team.
The Mount Holyoke crew team concluded its fall season at today's race and will return to action in the spring.
