Basketball Loses A Close Game to WPI

WORCESTER, Mass. (January 27, 2007) - WPI's Caitlin Macko's (Cromwell, CT) layup with 1:20 remaining in the game gave WPI the lead in the 52-49 victory over Mount Holyoke. With the win, WPI's record improves to 13-5 overall and 6-1 in conference play. The Lyons' drop to 13-6 overall and 5-2 in NEWMAC competition.

Senior Angela Astuccio (Foxboro, Mass.) paced all scorers with 21 points for the Lyons. Senior Joeanna Silvey (Boston, Mass.) also played well tallying 16 point along with 8 rebounds. First year Jessica Olson (Gilbert, Ariz.) dished out a game-high six assists while Junior Marissa Barone (Ludlow, Mass.) dropped in eight points and 11 strong rebounds on the day.

These two top scoring defenses in the NEWMAC will return to action on Wednesday. WPI will play cross-town rival Clark at 7pm and Mount Holyoke will travel to Springfield for a 7pm start.
