Riding Earns High Point Honors at UMass

HADLEY, Mass. (Oct. 3, 2009) – The Mount Holyoke College riding team earned High Point College honors at the University of Massachusetts Amherst Intercollegiate Horse Show on Saturday at Hadley Farms. It was the Lyons first regular season competition of the 2009-10 campaign. They racked up 43 points to secure the team title.

Following Mount Holyoke in the final standings were UMass (38), Becker College (35), Williams College (27), the College of the Holy Cross (25), Smith College (21), Amherst College (17), Clark University (15), Springfield College (13), Hampshire College (10), Assumption College (9), Westfield State College (9), Hartwick College (0) and Johnson and Wales University (0).

First year Allison O’Neill took home Intermediate High Point Rider accolades to highlight the day for the Lyons. She posted a first place result in her section of the intermediate fences division and later notched a third place finish in the intermediate flat division.

In addition to O’Neill, seven other Mount Holyoke riders earned blue ribbons. That group included senior Teresa Campbell (walk-trot), first year Emily Coggins (novice flat), sophomore Caroline Daly (novice flat), senior Caitlin Dickinson (walk-trot-canter), sophomore Amanda Ross (walk-trot-canter), junior Lindsay Sceats (open fences) and junior Elizabeth Tripp (intermediate fences).

Mount Holyoke will return to action next Saturday at the Smith College Horse Show.
