Cross Country Finishes Ninth at Purple Valley Classic

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Mount Holyoke College cross country team powered its way to ninth overall at the highly competitive Purple Valley Classic, hosted by Williams College on Saturday afternoon. The Lyons were paced by senior Elizabeth DeLeon, who finished 47th overall.

DeLeon posted a time of 23:52.5, finishing first on the team and 40th in the team standings as well. She was followed by sophomore Hannah Gershone, who was 83rd overall with a mark of 24:48.7. Gershone was the 55th overall finisher in the team scoring.

Junior Brianna Weir crossed the line in a time of 25:08.8, good for 99th overall and 64th in the overall team scoring, while sophomore Mia Barnes posted a time of 25:14.5, which was good for 102nd overall and 66th in the overall team scoring.

Sophomores Sunny Shan and Kelly Stevens were 127th (26:06.9) and 128th (26:10.7), respectively, also placing 84th and 85th in the overall team scoring, while first year Corrin Moss rounded out the team scoring positions in 100th with a time of 27:44.1. She was 159th in the overall race.

Additionally, the Lyons had several other runners compete, including sophomore Mishra Gargi (167th - 28:18.4), first year Emsie Cronin (169th - 28:32.1), sophomore Julia Criscione (177th - 28:55.0), first year Nora Taupier (181st - 29:23.5) and sophomore Caroline Black (182nd - 29:24.9).

Mount Holyoke is back on the course on Friday when it competes at the 2015 Paul Short Invitational, hosted by Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.
