Cross Country Finishes Strong at Open New Englands

BOSTON, Mass. – Mount Holyoke saw a strong effort across the board as 12 different runners were in action at the multi-divisional Open New England Championships, hosted at Franklin Park. The Lyons were 32nd of 39 teams in the 5k varsity race, while MHC saw its runners in the 5k junior varsity race place 27th overall.

Leading the Lyons in the varsity race was sophomore Sunny Shan, who posted a time of 19:25.02, good for 134th overall. Senior Elizabeth DeLeon was close behind, crossing the line in 19:30.29 – which was 142nd overall. Sophomore Hannah Gershone was 189th overall with a time of 20:07.03, while classmate Mia Barnes came across with a time of 20:10.11 – good for 193rd.

Junior Brianna Weir was 218th with a time of 20:32.07, while sophomore Kelly Stevens rounded out the efforts in the varsity race, finishing 242nd with a time of 21:04.49.

In the junior varsity race, the Lyons saw first year Emsie Cronin post a time of 22:29.03, which was 258th overall. Sophomore Gargi Mishra was 258th with a time of 22:54.71, while classmate Julia Criscione was 281st with a time of 23:24.82.

Sophomore Caroline Black crossed the line in a time of 23:40.18, good for 289th overall, while first years Nora Taupier and Victoria Parrish were 308th (25:07.35) and 312th (25:25.27), respectively.

Mount Holyoke returns to action next Saturday when it travels to Bryn Mawr for the 2015 Seven Sisters Championship.
