Lacrosse Downs UMass-Dartmouth, 17-6

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Mount Holyoke College lacrosse team evened its overall record up on Thursday morning, cruising to a 17-6 victory over UMass-Dartmouth in Spring Fling action at Lake Lytal Park. With the victory, the Lyons move to 3-3 overall, while the Corsairs are now 1-4 on the young season.

MHC opened the game's scoring as junior captain Kirsten Kilburn scored less than 30 seconds into the game. UMD countered to tie it as Rachel Machado found the back of the net at 28:40, but three straight from the Lyons, including the second of the game from Kilburn, made it a 4-1 advantage.

The Corsairs cut the lead to 4-2 at the 22:46 mark, but nine consecutive Mount Holyoke goals, including four straight from sophomore Julia Bell, saw the Lyons with a 13-2 lead at halftime. Also in the span were two goals from sophomore Catherine Ryan, who scored earlier in the frame.

In the second half, the game took a back-and-forth turn as Mount Holyoke matched UMD goal for goal to maintain their advantage. Kilburn added to her total, posting two more goals in the second half, while first years Katherine Guinee and Charlotte Wagner also scored.

For MHC, Bell and Kilburn posted a game-best four goals each. Bell also added two assists on the afternoon. Ryan chipped in with three goals and a game-best three assists. In goal, first year Isa Rodriguez recorded five saves for the win.

The Corsairs saw Taylor Corsano record three goals, while Colleen Kane added two tallies. In the cage, Nicole Butts made seven stops.

Mount Holyoke returns to action on Saturday when it opens NEWMAC play against Wheaton at 12pm. UMass-Dartmouth is back on the field on Tuesday at Worcester State for a 4pm game.
