Lacrosse Edged at Bridgewater State, 11-10

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - Despite a game-best five goals from sophomore Julia Bell, the Mount Holyoke College lacrosse team was unable to get past Bridgewater State University, falling 11-10 in non-conference action on Tuesday night. With the win, the Bears are now 1-0, while the Lyons dip to 0-2 on the young season.

Locked in a 6-6 tie after the opening half, the visiting Lyons grabbed the go-ahead goal on an unassisted tally from Bell at the 23:26 mark. MHC capitalized once again with 12:55 to go as junior captain Kirsten Kilburn scored on a solo shot and Bell followed up less than 25 seconds later with her fourth strike of the game with 12:36 to play.

Bridgewater responded in a big way as first year Melissa Renauld notched back-to-back scores and senior Taylor Clancy added two consecutive strikes of her own to push the Bears into the lead, 10-9 with 5:14 remaining on the clock.

Bell answered for the Lyons, netting the equalizer off a feed from senior Liz Randolph, but first year Alex King came up big for BSU. With 20 second left in the game, King followed through with a free position shot past the reach of goalie Isa Rodriguez for the game-winner.

The Bears, which held a 14-9 advantage in draw controls, were led by Clancy, who notched a game-best five goals with an assist. King tacked on three of her own with a helper, while Renauld added two goals and an assist. In the cage, sophomore Chandler Ross had 12 stops for Bridgewater.

For Mount Holyoke, Bell paced the way with an assist as well as her game-best five goals. Kilburn chipped in with three goals and an assist, while Randolph added two goals and an assist. In goal, Rodriguez recorded nine stops.

Mount Holyoke returns to action on Saturday in a 1pm game at New England College. Bridgewater State is back on the field on Thursday in a 4pm game at Western New England University.
