Mendiola Garners Top Weekly League Honors

TROY, N.Y. (Oct. 16, 2012) – The Liberty League has announced its weekly award winners in golf and for the fourth time this season, Mount Holyoke College student-athlete Madi Mendiola was tabbed as the Performer of the Week.

The sophomore from San Diego, Calif., shot a combined 152 – her lowest score of the fall – to finish second overall at the Ann S. Batchelder Invitational, hosted by Wellesley College. In the team's final match of the fall season, she shot a 76 on both days, finishing just four strokes back of the event winner.

Mendiola previously earned Performer of the Week honors on October 1 after placing second overall at the Middlebury Invitational. At that meet, she finished eight strokes in front of the nearest Liberty League competitor and just two strokes out of first place.

A four-time Liberty League Performer of the Week, Mendiola finished eighth or better in five matches this fall, including two second place performances. She also placed fifth at both the NYU and Mount Holyoke Invitationals.

The former Rancho Bernardo High School standout continues to be among the best in the country. Currently, she is the 25th-ranked player in Division III, having finished second this past weekend to the fourth-ranked player in the nation, Williams' Georgiana Salant. She is also on pace to set a new single season scoring average, posting a 78.30 average score in 2012.

In 2011, her first collegiate season, Mendiola posted the second best scoring average in school history (81.27). In addition to five top-ten finishes, she ended the season ranked 12th in the region.

Mount Holyoke concluded its fall season at the Ann S. Batchelder Invitational and will return to action in the spring.
