Williams Wins Third Straight Mount Holyoke Invitational

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Sept. 23, 2012) - Led by Georgiana Salant, the Williams College women's golf team grabbed top honors at the 37th annual Mount Holyoke College Invitational this weekend. A total of 15 teams and 88 individuals participated in the tournament, which was hosted by The Orchards Golf Club (par 72 – 5,845 yards).

The Ephs recorded a team score of 647 (315, 332) en route to their third championship in a row. Merrimack College (651 – 325, 326) and Wagner College (651 – 324, 327) finished in a tie for second, while Middlebury College (654 – 328, 326) and Ithaca College (659 – 331, 328) rounded out the top five. Host Mount Holyoke finished the weekend in 15th place overall (785 – 380, 405).

Amherst's Elizabeth Monty took home medalist honors after posting a two-day total of 148 (73, 75). She finished four strokes ahead of Merrimack's Jessica Ngui (152 – 76,76). Williams' Salant closed out the weekend in third place (153 – 74, 79), while Ithaca's Kelsey Baker (154 – 80, 74) and Mount Holyoke's Madi Mendiola (155 – 76, 79) rounded out the top five.

In addition to Mendiola, Mount Holyoke saw senior Felicitas Gerlach finished 62nd overall (186 – 91, 95), while first year Hannah Lozinski (229 – 115, 114) and senior Lee Anglin (244 – 127, 117) were 80th and 84th, respectively to round out the team efforts.

Individually, Mount Holyoke's Rebecca Berger led the field of finishers in 49th place (181 – 89, 92). First year Katie Poulin was 86th overall (281 – 140, 141) in her first collegiate action.

Mount Holyoke will return to action next weekend, when it participates in the Middlebury College Invitational. The event is slated to begin on Saturday and conclude on Sunday.
