Rowing Earns NEWMAC Boat of the Week Honors

BOSTON, Mass. -The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has announced its weekly award winners and the Mount Holyoke College rowing team was recognized. The Lyons varsity eight crew was named the Boat of the Week after posting a runner-up finish on Lake Quinsigamond last Sunday.

MHC's varsity eight boat finished second with a time of 7:09.0. The Lyons fell just short of the first-placed Catamounts from the University of Vermont, which won with a time of 7:08.7. The crew outpaced its competitors though, besting Simmons (7:24.8), Clark (7:33.0) and Endicott (8:14.9) in the race.

Members of the boat included coxswain Leela Woody, Ariya Lawson (8), Azulina Green (7), Sophie Rabinow (6), Elizabeth Hazen (5), Sharlow Hitchcock (4), Emma Tolerton (3), Meghan Ryan (2) and Susannah Lickus (B).

It was the second race of the spring schedule for the Lyons, who placed fourth overall at the 2016 Seven Sisters Championship in the fall. That boat also included Lawson, Ryan and Hazen, all of whom were named to the All-Tournament Team. MHC also saw its V8 boat finish 11th at the season-opening Quinsigamond Snake Regatta.

Mount Holyoke returns to the water on Saturday, traveling to New London, Conn., to face Coast Guard and Johnson & Wales on the Thames River.
