Rowing Concludes 2016-17 Season at NIRC Championship

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Mount Holyoke College rowing team concluded its 2016-17 season on Friday afternoon, competing at the 2017 National Invitational Rowing Championships on Lake Quinsigamond. The Lyons saw the varsity eight boat place 15th overall after posting a solid effort in its final race.

The varsity eight crew opened its heat in fifth place with a time of 7:06.919. MHC advanced to the Third Final, finishing third overall with a mark of 7:09.278. The crew bested boats from Trinity, Skidmore, Simmons and Clark in the final. Overall amongst all heats and crews, the Lyons were 15th of 19 total boats.

MHC's second varsity eight boat also had a strong end to the season, finishing sixth overall in its opening heat with a time of 7:41.032. The Lyons also went on to compete in the Third Final, securing fourth overall with an improved time of 7:33.371.

Rounding out the action for Mount Holyoke at the NIRC was the varsity four boat, which did not compete in opening heats due to only six boats being entered. The Lyons advanced straight to the Grand Final, posting fourth overall with a time of 8:26.637. MHC posted a time that bested Clark and St. Lawrence.

Mount Holyoke concludes its season having finished fourth overall at both the Seven Sisters Regatta and the NEWMAC Championship.
