Swimming and Diving Opens 2021-22 Season at Smith Relays

Northampton, Mass. - October 30, 2021 - The Mount Holyoke College swimming and diving team opened the 2021-22 season at Smith College's Dalton Pool on Saturday afternoon, as the Lyons competed against the Pioneers in the Smith College Relays, a 12-event non-scoring meet.

Starting off the meet was one-meter diving, where Mount Holyoke College claimed the top four spots. Kathryn Murphy (Fairport, N.Y.) took first with 242.2 points, followed by Maddy Sewell (Scottsdale, Ariz.), who turned in a score of 219.3. Sophie Simon (Menlo Park, Calif.) posted a score of 201.67, good for third, before Lilje Stratton (Bellevue, Wash.) notched a score of 194.84 for fourth.

The 200 yard medley relay kicked off the swimming portion of the meet as the Lyons had relay teams take second, third and fourth. The team of Anais Magner (Whakatane, New Zealand), Erin Schrama (Providence, R.I.), Emily Tarinelli (Groton, Conn.) and Kamlyn Yosick (Portland, Ore.) led the charge with a finishing time of 2:03.95. Next was the 800 freestyle relay, where the team to Hannah Heierhoff (Wiesbaden, Germany), Megan Schneider (Newton, Mass.), Eliza Williams (Andover, Mass.) and Evelyn Bushway (Schenectady, N.Y.) combined for a time of 8:45.38, good for second. 

Next was the 3x100 butterfly relay where Tarinelli, Seran Goudsouzian (Hellertown, Pa.) and Heierhoff posted a second-place finish with a time of 3:30.87, before Magner, Lauren Leese (Round Rock, Texas) and Adji Diouf (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) won the 3x100 backstroke relay with a time of 3:17.43.

Bushway, Williams and Schrama teamed up for the 3x100 breaststroke relay and took second with a time of 3:56.53 before Diouf, Yosick, Schneider and Schrama teamed up to take second overall in the 200 freestyle relay, combining for a time of 1:48.73.

The next event was three-meter diving, where Simon produced a first-place finish with a mark of 215.77, while Murphy posted a second-place result with a score of 193.49. Stratton wrapped up the top three with a mark of 173.32.

Mount Holyoke's team of Heierhoff, Bushway, Tarinelli and Yosick swam a second-place finish in the 400 medley relay, turning in a time of 4:36.30 before the team of Schneider, Alexa Veliz (Tequisquiapan, Mass.), Lauren Madsen (Ghent, N.Y.) and Williams took second in the 200 medley relay (2x50 breast, 2x50 fly) with a time of 2:16.35.

Wrapping up the meet, Mount Holyoke's team of Magner, Annabeth Loftman (Menlo Park, Calif.), Diouf and Adrienne Corr (San Diego, Calif.) clocked a time of 1:49.17 in the 200 medley relay (2x50 free, 2x50 back), before Heierhoff, Yosick, Williams and Bushway capped things off with a runner-up finish in the 400 freestyle relay.

Up next, Mount Holyoke College travels to Biddeford, Maine where they will take on UNE on Saturday, November 6. The meet is set to begin at 12 p.m.
