Soccer Rolls Past Bay Path, 9-0

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Senior forward Ashleigh Hartsock netted her first collegiate hat trick as the Mount Holyoke College soccer team rolled to a 9-0 victory over Bay Path University in non-conference action on Tuesday. With the win, the Lyons move to 6-2-1 on the season and remain unbeaten in their last six contests. The Wildcats slip to 3-5-0 overall.

Hartsock (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) finished with three goals and an assist, while sophomore midfielders Liz Rose and Suz Rose (South Hamilton, Mass./Hamilton-Wenham Regional) each recorded a goal and an assist. Fresh off her NEWMAC Defensive Performer of the Week honor on Monday, junior goalie Zoe Marshall (Mississauga, Ont./Cawthra Park Secondary School) not only earned the win in goal – playing the first 45 minutes with no saves required – she came in during the second half as a field player, producing a game-high eight shots (six on goal) and also scored the first two goals of her career, just two minutes apart, in the second half.

The Lyons got things going quickly as Hartsock (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) notched her first of the game just 3:20 in. Collecting a quick pass from first year forward Sara Sanaú Ruiz (Zaragoza, Spain/P.P. Dominicos – Cardenal Xavierre), Hartsock was able to fire it up past the reach of Wilcats goalie Briana Kujawski (Webster, Mass./Douglas).

It would be Liz Rose in the 10th minute, putting the Lyons up on a long high shot that went up over the goalie. Hartsock would net her second in the 14th minute on a great cross from sophomore forward Jamie Collings (Gainsville, Fla./Eastside) and Sanaú Ruiz fired in her team-leading 12th tally of the year less than 30 seconds later to make it a 4-0 lead.

Mount Holyoke would head in to halftime with a 5-0 advantage, courtesy of a Suz Rose shot fired in from down the middle. The Lyons held a 15-2 edge in shots for the opening half.

Marshall came on in the second half on offense, scoring in the 66th minute as she dribbled past a defender, shooting the ball between the goalie's legs from the left side. Less than two minutes later, she collected a feed from Suz Rose and found the back of the net for her second score.

Hartsock went on to add her third of the game in the 81st minute, firing in a shot off a feed from first year defender Avia Jacobs (Calabasas, Calif./Sierra Canyon) and the Lyons closed out the score in the 89th minute as junior defender Rebecca Levkowicz (Chestnut Hill, Mass./Beaver Country Day School) scored into the top right corner off an assist by Collings.

Mount Holyoke finished with a 32-5 advantage in shots, also holding a 4-1 edge in corners. Marshall was not forced to make any stops in picking up the win. She was relieved in the second half by first year Amanda Manaster (Beverly Hills, Calif./Beverly Hills), who made three saves over 45 minutes of work. Kujawaski made 12 stops in the loss for the Wildcats.

The Lyons are back in action on Saturday when they host MIT in NEWMAC action at 1pm. Bay Path returns to the field on Sunday in a 2pm NECC match against Wheelock.
