WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Hannah Bisson tried her best to claim Wellesley's senior day as her own, netting a career-high seven goals, but it wasn't enough for the Mount Holyoke lacrosse team as the visiting Lyons fell 19-11 to the host Blue in a NEWMAC game Saturday.

Wellesley (3-12, 1-8 NEWMAC) gained its first NEWMAC win behind five goals and three assists by Gabrielle Shell, plus four goals and nine draw controls from Finley Tipton. The Blue finish their season at Babson on Wednesday at 4pm.

Mount Holyoke (1-15, 0-9 NEWMAC) will host Springfield on Wednesday at 6pm in the season finale.

Hannah Bisson (South Hadley, Mass.) exceeded her previous career-high by two goals in finding the back of the net seven times on 10 shots, including four goals in the fourth quarter.

Junior Ella Phillips (Sandwich, Mass.) scored two goals and sophomore Emi Bisson (Chester, Conn.) contributed a goal, her 42nd of the season, along with two assists and four draw controls. First-year Mackenzie Hillman (Newington, Conn.) secured five draw controls and scored a goal for the fourth straight game.

Wellesley got out to leads of 2-0 and 4-1 in the first quarter, then answered Emi Bisson's unassisted goal early in the second quarter with five straight scores for a 10-4 lead. The Blue incrementally expanded their lead to as many as 10 goals and led 17-7 going into the fourth quarter.

Hannah Bisson scored on back-to-back free-position attempts at the 11:08 and 10:34 marks of the fourth quarter, cutting the gap to 17-9. Wellesley responded with a man-up goal by Lillian Games, followed by a free-position goal by Willa McGough to restore Welleley's lead to a commanding 10 goals with 4:54 remaining.

First-year Syd Baker (Needham, Mass.) made 13 saves in goal for Mount Holyoke, while Anna Blake Patrick made 11 saves for Wellesley. The Blue outshot the Lyons by a 43-28 margin and had a narrow advantage in turnovers (21-17), while Mount Holyoke had a 17-16 edge in draw controls.
