NEWPORT, R.I. -- Mount Holyoke sophomore Emi Bisson scored her 39th and 40th goals of the season before Salve Regina University got on the scoreboard, but the host Seahawks' 8-1 run in response led to their 13-7 victory Wednesday night in the teams' first-ever meeting as NEWMAC rivals.

Emi Bisson (Chester, Conn.) finished the game with three goals, one assist, three draw controls, three caused turnovers and four ground balls as she continued her hot play. Bisson scored a career-high eight goals on Monday against Emerson.

Salve Regina (9-6, 3-5 NEWMAC), a new member of the NEWMAC this year, earned its first victory against Mount Holyoke (1-14, 0-8 NEWMAC), moving to 1-2 against the Lyons all-time.

Inside the first five minutes of the game, Emi Bisson scored unassisted, and then with an assist from senior Hannah Bisson (South Hadley, Mass.) for a 2-0 Mount Holyoke lead with 10:02 to go in the first quarter.

Salve Regina called timeout, then forced a Mount Holyoke turnover after the Lyons controlled the draw. Samantha Moleti was fouled and scored a free-position goal, halving Mount Holyoke's lead just 23 seconds later. At the 7:27 mark, the Seahawks' Daniella Bruno caused a Lyons turnover before assisting Alix Madden to tie the game at 2-2 halfway through the period. The Seahawks added goals by Kayli Garcia and Cameron Baston to take a two-goal lead before Emi Bisson fed first-year Mackenzie Hillman (Newington, Conn.) to stem the run with 1:33 left in the first period.

Salve Regina maintained its momentum, however, scoring the first four goals of the second period before junior Ella Phillips (Sandwich, Mass.) scored to make it an 8-4 game with 4:55 left in the half. Madden scored again to make it 9-4 going into the second half, and the teams traded two goals apiece in the third quarter as Salve Regina maintained a five-goal lead. Emi Bisson and junior Madison Millyan (Winchester, Mass.) kept Mount Holyoke within striking distance with goals in the third quarter.

The Lyons outshot the Seahawks 11-4 but were outscored 2-1 in the fourth period, with neither team scoring after sophomore Marielle Welch's (Silver Spring, Md.) goal with 8:56 remaining in the game.

Phillips finished with one goal, one assist and three draw controls for the Lyons, and sophomore Jane Harmon (Ashburnham, Mass.) caused three turnovers and had three ground balls. First-year goalie Syd Baker (Needham, Mass.) had 15 saves and four ground balls.

Madden led Salve Regina with three goals and one assist, while Holly Sullivan had two goals, an assist and six draw controls and Bruno posted two goals and two assists.

Mount Holyoke plays at Wellesley Saturday at 2:30pm in the Lyons' final road game.
