BABSON PARK, Mass. – The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has announced its weekly awards in lacrosse and for the second time this season Mount Holyoke College student-athlete Liz Malenfant was selected. The senior netminder was named the Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Lyons go 2-0 last week.

Malenfant pushed her season record to 8-1, recording a pair of wins last week in the cage for the Lyons. She made a number of critical stops on the week beginning with nine stops in an 8-7 victory at Western Connecticut State. She rounded out the week with seven stops as MHC defeated MIT by a 17-6 margin. Additionally, Malenfant recorded four ground ball pickups.

The former White Mountain School (N.H.) standout continues to lead the conference in wins and is second in saves (76), goals against average (9.54) and save percentage (.472) among the NEWMAC leaders. Through 10 contests this season, Malenfant has recorded 534:30 minutes in goal and has allowed just 85 tallies, which ranks seventh overall in the league.

Malenfant, who also has also scooped up 17 ground balls and caused three turnovers, has now been recognized by the NEWMAC twice this season. She earned her first award two weeks prior when she made 17 stops in a dramatic 11-10 victory over Springfield in the conference season opener.

Last season, Malenfant posted a 12.66 goals against average with a .402 save percentage. She went 4-6 overall with 66 saves over 464:20 minutes of action. Additionally, she had 18 ground balls and four caused turnovers.

Mount Holyoke (8-2; 2-1 NEWMAC) is back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Bridgewater State at 6pm. That game will also be a celebration for MHC Athletics Director, Laurie Priest, who will step down at the conclusion of this school year. The Lyons will then welcome Wheaton on Saturday in the final regular season home contest of 2013. That game will honor Malenfant and the other six graduating senior for Mount Holyoke.
