  • 2009 Cross Country Season in Review

    The Mount Holyoke cross country program entered into a new era in 2009, as Beth Somerset took over as head coach. Under her direction, the Lyons competed in seven events during the winter. Junior Rebecca Engell and sophomore Holly Valenzuela earned top team honors two times apiece to lead the way.
  • Awards Handed Out at Annual Athletic Banquet

    The Mount Holyoke College Department of Athletics hosted its annual awards celebration this evening in Chapin Auditorium. Individuals from all 14 varsity teams were honored. Squash Head Coach Allen Fitzsimmons served as the event’s emcee. Soccer team member Lauren Orr earned the prestigious Alumnae Association Scholar-Athlete Award.
  • Seniors Honored at Scholar Athlete Reception

    Prior to the annual athletics awards celebration this evening, 17 Mount Holyoke seniors representing 11 teams were honored as part of the College's second annual Scholar Athlete Reception. The recognition event highlighted those student-athletes who have excelled both on the field and in the classroom.

  • Award Winning Documentary Filmmaker Jenny Mackenzie to Speak at Mount Holyoke

    Award winning documentary filmmaker and well known motivational speaker Jenny Mackenzie will be visiting Mount Holyoke College on Tuesday, February 2 at 6:30 p.m. to present her new film entitled "Kick Like A Girl." Her appearance will highlight the College’s National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration.

  • Cross Country Finishes 28th at NCAA Regional Championship

    The Mount Holyoke College women's cross country team wrapped up its 2009 campaign with a 28th place finish at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship today at Twin Brook Recreation Area. Sophomore Holly Valenzuela led the Lyons with a time of 24:36, which was good for 107th place overall.

    The NEWMAC recently announced its 2009 Fall Academic All-Conference Teams. Twenty-one Mount Holyoke College student-athletes were recognized for their achievements in their respective sports as well as in the classroom. Academic All-Conference Teams were selected for the sports of cross country, field hockey, soccer, tennis and volleyball.

    The Mount Holyoke College women's cross country team took ninth place at the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship today at Franklin Park in Boston, Massachusetts. Leading the way for the Lyons was first year Julia Merton, who took home 46th place with a time of 21:38.

    The Wellesley College women’s cross country team grabbed first place at the 28th annual Seven Sisters Championship today at Mount Holyoke College. Five runners finished in the top ten overall for the Blue, who captured their championship best eighth team title.
