Cross Country Finishes 28th at NCAA Regional Championship

CUMBERLAND, Maine (Nov. 14, 2009) – The Mount Holyoke College women's cross country team wrapped up its 2009 campaign with a 28th place finish at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship today at Twin Brook Recreation Area. Sophomore Holly Valenzuela led the Lyons with a time of 24:36, which was good for 107th place overall.

Middlebury College and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology posted matching scores of 63 points to secure a tie for first place overall. They were followed by Williams College, which collected 99 points. Mount Holyoke amassed 838 points.

MIT’s Jacqui Wentz was the top individual finisher. She completed the 6,000-meter course in 21:35. Rounding out the top three were Ravenna Neville of Wesleyan University (21:39) and Maria Monks of MIT (21:44). In all, 315 runners participated.

A total of seven Lyons took part in the event. Junior Hannah DiCocco posted a 140th place result (25:13), while first year Julia Merton nabbed 166th place (25:47).
