Cross Country Races at New England Championship

BOSTON, Mass. (Oct. 10, 2009) – The Mount Holyoke College cross country team posted a 46th place finish at the 2009 New England Cross Country Championship today in Boston, Massachusetts. A total of 327 runners from 49 teams competed in the event, which took place at Franklin Park.

Brown University (130) dominated the field en route to claiming the team title. Boston College (170) and Dartmouth College (201) rounded out the top three.

In the individual competition, Corey Conner of the University of Maine claimed top honors with a time of 17:36. She finished just in front of Brown’s Ari Garber (18:04) and MIT’s Jacqui Wentz (18:06), who took second and third place, respectively.

Leading the way for Mount Holyoke was first year Hannah Fillingim, who completed the 5,000 meter course in 21:26 to secure 250th place. The Lyons also received a boost from junior Hannah DiCocco, who crossed the line in 21:47 to take 264th place. Sophomore Holly Valenzuela added a 271st place result (21:55). The Lyons top six runners finished within a 53 second span.

Mount Holyoke is slated to host the Seven Sisters Championship next Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
