HARTFORD, Conn. (Jan. 19, 2011) – The Mount Holyoke College swimming and diving team suffered a 149-94 setback at Trinity College this evening. Leading the way for the Lyons were first year Lauren Williams and sophomore Madeline Magee, who figured in on two first place finishes apiece.
After combining with first year Sin Seanne Ng and sophomore Nora Cunningham to take home top honors in the 200-yard medley relay (1:58.02), the tandem posted one individual victory apiece. Williams won the 200-yard individual medley (2:19.59), while Magee prevailed in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.46).
Williams completed her night with a second place finish in the 500-yard freestyle relay (5:38.11). Meanwhile, Ng tapped in second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.61), and junior Lydia Bowers repeated the feat in the 100-yard freestyle (55.87).
Ng and Bowers also grabbed second place in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:47.51) along with junior Sarah Rooney and senior Michelle Kroll.
Trinity (2-4) recorded top times in 10 of the 13 events. The Bantams were paced by sophomore Emily Jensen, who figured in on three victories. Classmate Shelby Friel and first year Emily Johnson chipped in with a pair of wins.
After clocking top times in both the 50 (25.84) and 100-yard (55.87) freestyle events, Jensen rounded out her day with a first place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:43.86). Friel, who was also a member of Trinity's winning 200-yard freestyle relay team, touched the wall first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.26). Meanwhile, Johnson captured top honors in both diving events.
Mount Holyoke (4-2) is scheduled to compete in the annual Seven Sisters Championship at Wellesley College this weekend. The event is slated to begin on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. and run through Sunday.
