Kathy Brawn Named Interim Head Soccer Coach at Mount Holyoke College

South Hadley, Mass. - October 6, 2020 - Chair of Physical Education and Director of Athletics Lori Hendricks '92 is excited to announce the hiring of Kathy Brawn as the interim soccer coach at Mount Holyoke College, effective immediately.

Bringing an incredible amount of head coaching experience to Mount Holyoke College, Brawn was most recently the head women's soccer coach at Colgate University. During her time at Colgate, Brawn amassed 312 career wins including 11 conference titles, six NCAA Championship Tournament appearances and helped coach five All-America selections, 31 All-Region honorees, and 137 student-athletes that collected All-Conference recognition.

"I'd like to thank Chair of Physical Education and Director of Athletics, Lori Hendricks '92, for this wonderful opportunity," said Brawn. "Mount Holyoke College is an incredible institution and Lori is among the very best leaders in her field. I am truly honored, happy and excited to begin this new journey, represent the Lyons Athletics family and work with these phenomenal student-athletes."

Over the course of her career, Brawn has been named the United Soccer Coaches Northeast Region "Coach of the Year" twice, and collected three conference coach of the year honors. Upon reaching the 300-win plateau in 2018, Brawn was among the top 30 active winningest Division I women's soccer coaches in the country.

Brawn's success as a head coach continued off the pitch, as she helped her student-athletes achieve a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better for the entirety of her 29-year career with the Raiders. Additionally, Brawn's student-athletes collected 181 conference academic honor roll honors and three conference scholar-athlete of the year awards. Twice in her career, a women's soccer student-athlete earned Colgate's 1819 award, the institution's highest honor for a graduating senior.

"First, let me thank the soccer captains, Maria Delgado, Emma Robson, and Sarah Forster for their incredible leadership during this transitional period," added Hendricks. "The commitment to their sport and to their teammates is inspiring and has set a high bar for this new chapter of MHC soccer.  I am grateful for their assistance over the summer and am thrilled to bring Coach Brawn onto our team to ignite the renaissance of our soccer program.  I have been a fan of Coach Brawn for many years.  She recruits talented individuals of substance, invests in their development as athletes and as scholars, and motivates them to perform at a high level.  Coach Brawn has my full confidence in leading this team and program."

Brawn is no stranger to being involved with the campus community, as she served on the Colgate Division of Physical Education, Recreation & Athletics Committee on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, as well as serving on the Colgate University Academic Affairs Board twice during her 28-year tenure in Hamilton. Brawn was also an instructor in Physical Education at the University for four years, and chaired both the Admissions Advisory Committee and the Drug and Alcohol Education Committee on campus.
