Lacrosse Shoulders Tough Loss to Bridgewater State

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Sophomore midfielder Elizabeth Ettridge scored a game-high five goals to lead Bridgewater State University to a 15-8 victory over Mount Holyoke College in non-conference action on Sunday. The win moved the Bears to 1-1 on the season, while the Lyons slipped to 0-2 in their home debut.

Bridgewater State held a 7-4 advantage following the first half of action, but broke open the contest with seven straight second half tallies for a 14-4 advantage. Ettridge (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield), who had scored with 17 seconds remaining of the opening stanza, grabbed her second of the contest at 28:36 off a feed from senior attack Melissa Renauld (Framingham, Mass./Framingham).

Junior midfielder Haley Riley (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield) added a free position goal less than six minutes later, followed by a score from senior midfielder Alex Lynch (Plainville, Mass./King Philip Regional) after catching a pass from Renauld for the 10-4 lead.

The Bears continued to press netting a pair of quick goals by junior attack Gabby Reinold (Braintree, Mass./Braintree). Both goals, which were scored just over a minute apart, saw the junior get the feed from first year attack Hayley White (Dracut, Mass./Dracut).

Ettridge banked in a free position tally with 15:24 to play, adding her fourth of the game seconds later to give the visitors the 10-goal advantage.

After back-and-forth play, Mount Holyoke began to chip away at the margin, paced by junior midfielder Kaitlin Braz (Tolland, Conn./East Catholic). WIth 9:39 on the clock, Braz sent a shot past the reach of senior keeper Allie Forman (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead). She then made it a 14-6 score with 4:50 to play after sophomore attack Deyscha Smith (Boston, Mass./Academy of the Pacific Rim) lifted a high pass over a BSU player to Braz, who fired it in low.

The Lyons cut the deficit to seven as first year Julianna Rankin (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) found the back of the net for her second of the game, but Ettridge answered once more for the visitors at the 1:41 mark.

An outstanding individual effort from Braz seconds later made it 15-8 after she cut around the back of the net and fired low down the middle, but the Bears gained possession to keep the score final.

In addition to Ettridge, Renauld scored four goals and added four assists. Reinold had three tallies and a helper, while White had a goal and two assists. In the cage for the Bears, Forman earned the win with 11 saves.

For the Lyons, Braz led the way with four goals, whiel Rankin added two. Senior captain Charlotte Wagner (West Chester, Pa./Westtown School) added a goal, while junior middie Leila Kouakou (Leeds, Mass./Northampton) also had a score in the opening half. Defensively, junior captain Julia Lankin (West Hartford, Conn./Conard) had three ground balls and won four draw controls. In goal, first year goalie Mia Wysocki (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) made three saves in the loss, while senior Isa Rodriguez (Columbus, Ohio/Westerville School) had one stop in 22:40 of relief.
