BRADENTON, Fla. - Powered by a 12-goal first half, the Mount Holyoke College lacrosse team posted a 16-5 victory over Concordia University (Wisc.) on Thursday afternoon during the Spring Fling at G.T. Bray Park. With the victory, the Lyons improve to 3-3 on the season, while the Falcons slip to 1-3 on the young season.

The Lyons struck quickly in the opening half as senior captain and midfielder Kirsten Kilburn scored in the first 43 seconds of the game. Junior attacker Julia Bell quickly followed and scores by sophomore attack Charlotte Wagner and Kilburn put MHC up by a 4-0 margin.

Concordia got on the board at the 24:59 mark as Hayley Peppers connected off a feed from Hannah Redden, but a 6-0 run from Mount Holyoke put the Lyons up by a 10-1 score with 8:26 to play. MHC benefited from two goals and four assists from junior captain and attack Catherine Ryan and a three-goal effort from Bell.

The Falcons opened the second half with a pair of goals as Allison Kurek and Redden both found the back of the net, but one again the Lyons continued to roll as tallies from Kilburn, Ryan, Bell and first year Julia Opel made it a 16-4 game with 1:10 to play.

Emily Heckendorf added a score for Concordia with 26 seconds to go, but MHC grabbed the win, backed by sophomore goalie Isa Rodriguez's five saves.

Offensively, Bell finished with five goals and an assist, going 7-for-7 in shots on goal with a ground ball and two draw controls. Ryan had three goals with five assists, while Kilburn tacked on four goals and a helper.

For the Falcons, five different players scored, led by Redden who had a tally and an assist. In the net, Veronika Metanova made seven stops.

The Lyons led in shots by a 30-18 advantage and also held a 14-9 edge in draw controls.

Mount Holyoke returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Emerson for a 7pm contest against the Lyons.
