Williams Secures Team Title at Mount Holyoke Invitational

Orchards SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Sept. 26, 2010) – Led by Emily Wickstrom and Becky Miller, the Williams College women's golf team grabbed the team title at the 35th annual Mount Holyoke College Invitational this weekend. A total of 14 teams and 76 individuals participated in the tournament, which was hosted by The Orchards Golf Club (par 72 – 5,845 yards).

The Ephs recorded a team score of 615 (304, 311) en route to the championship. New York University (641 – 315, 326) and Amherst College (642 – 323, 319) rounded out the top three. Host Mount Holyoke finished the weekend in 10th place overall (690 – 350, 340).

Wickstrom took home medalist honors after posting a two day total of 149 (75, 74). She entered the second round trailing New York's Kristina Shalhoup by one stroke but overcame the deficit by carding a tournament low score of 74 today. Shalhoup final tally of 152 (74, 78) was good for second place overall.

Stephanie Klein of the University at Albany rounded out the top three (153 – 76, 77), while Miller and St. Lawrence University's Aimee Caligore tied for fourth place with matching scores of 154.

Mount Holyoke was paced by junior Alexandra Irish, who amassed a two day total of 157 (80, 77) to secure seventh place overall. Senior Sarah Keating and sophomore Felicitas Gerlach chipped in with 25th (164) and 56th (185) place results, respectively.

Mount Holyoke will return to action next weekend, when it participates in the Middlebury College Invitational. The event is slated to begin on Saturday and conclude on Sunday.
