No. 15 Rowing Tops No. 11 Coast Guard and Division-I Holy Cross

Shrewsbury, Mass. - April 16, 2022 - The Mount Holyoke College rowing team competed against Division-I Holy Cross and New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe Coast Guard on Saturday morning at the Donahue Rowing Center. The Lyons, which were ranked No. 15 in the latest Pocock CRCA Division III National Rankings, had an impressive day as they topped No. 11 Coast Guard and Holy Cross in the Varsity 8 heat. 

Leading the first eight for Mount Holyoke College was coxswain Jaya Nagarajan-Swenson (Berkeley, Calif.), who was in a boat with Simran Kaur (Hanover, N.H.), Emma Waldron (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Bea Rodriguez (Miami, Fla.), Jocelyn Greer (Athens, N.Y.), Piper LaPointe (Norfolk, Mass.), Lilla Carroll (Birmingham, Ala.), Jill Slatch (Gansevoort, N.Y.) and Ellie Mohn (Exeter, Conn). This boat turned in a time of 8:15.1 to claim victory, as Coast Guard turned in a time of 8:18.13 and Holy Cross crossed in 8:41.03.

The Lyons' second eight consisted of Dara Weingarten (Niskayuna, N.Y.) as the coxswain, followed by Claire Gabel (Watertown, Mass.), Caroline Odlin-Brewer (South Portland, Maine), Reeve Haefele (Rockville, Md.), Meghan French (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.), Arin Rinvelt (Ann Arbor, Mich.), Dina Markovich-Koyfman (Seattle, Wash.), Amy Wang (Beijing, China) and Katherine Dailey (Camden, Maine). Holy Cross A won the heat with a time of 8:15.47, followed by Holy Cross B, which clocked in at 8:41.81. Weingarten's crew finished in 8:58.28.

"Today we saw some solid racing in some very challenging conditions," said head Mount Holyoke rowing coach, Seth Hussey. "We'll see Coast Guard again next week at the NEWMAC Championships. I'm sure they'll be up for it and we'll be in for another tough race."

Mount Holyoke College now gears up for the 2022 NEWMAC Championships, which will be back at the Donahue Rowing Center on Saturday, Aprl 23.
