South Hadley, Mass. - September 21, 2019 - The Mount Holyoke College field hockey team fell to Clark University in the Lyons' first New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest of the season, as the Cougars defeated the Lyons, 3-1, at the MHC Turf and Track Complex on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Lyons fall to 2-4 overall with an 0-1 record against league opponents, while Clark improves to 6-2 on the year with a 1-0 mark in the NEWMAC. Mount Holyoke College owned a 17-13 shot advantage over 60 minutes of play, as the Lyons were also granted 10 penalty corners to Clark's eight.

In net for the Lyons, Morgan Turner (Chester, N.J.) finished with five saves, four of which came in the first half, while her counterpart, Grace Sawyer (Windham, Maine) finished with three stops in her sixth win of the year.

Clark got on the board just 4:40 into the contest when Chase Collier (Lisbon, Maine) fed a ball to the middle of the arch, that landed on the stick of Julia D'Antonio (Ramsey, N.J.), who lifted a shot past Turner to make it 1-0, Cougars, in the early stages of the contest.

Just like they did in the first half, Clark opened the second half with an early goal as Collier sent another ball to the middle, this time finding Abigail Cravinho (Bellow Falls, Vt.), who was able to take advantage of the opportunity and give the Cougars a 2-0 lead with 10:04 to play in the third quarter.

The Lyons finally got on the board in the beginning of the fourth quarter as Mirei Golding-Powers (San Francisco, Calif.) shot a ball into the middle of the arch, which was collected by Kylie Brooks (Oceanside, Calif.), who redirected the ball to the back post, finding Leah Pendl-Robinson (Branford, Conn.), who converted the chance to cut the Lyons' deficit in half with 14:33 to play in the contest.

Clark was awarded a penalty corner with less than nine minutes remaining, and Emma Boland (Redding, Conn.) sent it in to Carden Maloney (Worcester, Mass.), who rocketed a shot towards the goal. After passing in the penalty corner, Boland hustled to the net and was able to tip the shot past Turner to make it 3-1, Clark with 8:57 to play in the game. 

Up next, Mount Holyoke College will host local foe Western New England University on Thursday, September 26 at 7 p.m. back on the MHC Turf and Track Complex.
